Flood-ravaged Highway 140 into Yosemite reopened today…just in time for the big Memoral Day holiday. The 140 corridor had been severely flooded by a raging Merced River in January. Park officials in March began allowing tourists to use the route on Saturdays and evenings while repair crews worked on the highway at other times.
Now though, all of Highway 140 from Merced, through Mariposa and El Portal and into Yosemite Valley will be open all the time. That will change in October though when permanent repairs are planned and access will be allowed only at designated times.
